Branch Mission

Ontario Ancestors Logo

The mission of the Nipissing Branch, like that of our parent body Ontario Ancestors, The Ontario Genealogical Society, is to “encourage, bring together and assist those interested in the pursuit of family history and to preserve our Ontario genealogical heritage.” Specifically the Branch collects and creates resources relating to the families who have lived in these Districts. Cemetery transcripts and indexes to census records are just some of the resources which have been created by the members. These resources are for sale at the Ontario Ancestors online MarketPlace.

The Nipissing Branch of Ontario Ancestors has been serving the Districts of Nipissing, Timiskaming, and Parry Sound since 1979. The changing boundaries of these Districts can be found at the Archives of Ontario’s The Changing Shape of Ontario online exhibit.

Benefits of Membership

Ontario Ancestors, The Ontario Genealogical Society provides many resources and services to its members and the branches including important lobbying regarding census issues, cemetery closings and other matters of concern to members. Branch membership is therefore linked to Society membership and new members must join the Society if they are not already members. To join, use the online form provided on the Ontario Ancestors website. Branch activities are funded from membership fees ($10), donations, 50/50 tickets at monthly meetings, the sale of its books and resources, queries, and other occasional fundraising events.
